the last time i blogged...

...was a long time ago. I promise to stop taking these sabbaticals from the blogging world but life is just too darn busy when you have absolutely nothing to do. I’m speaking of Christmas break of course. Christmas has come and gone already and I don’t even know what I’ve done. It’s like those times when you drive from one location to the next and you don’t remember how you got from point A to point B. It’s totally freaky. Let’s see though…if I brainstorm hard enough I might be able to figure out what in the world I’ve been doing for 2 weeks. Okay. Got it:

movies, eating, gift exchanges, family parties, baking, eating, jazz games, sleeping, NOT going to the gym, eating, reading, missionary phone calls, music, eating, errands, shopping, laughing, laughing, and more laughing.

Whew, I haven’t brainstormed in a while. That was tiring. I must say though, Christmas break is quite simply, the best.

As the latter half of the break is going by much too quickly and we are approaching the New Year, a few thoughts come to mind:

1. Well it’s about time! For some reason I skipped a year in my mind and have been writing “2012” on my papers for the past 12 months. I can’t wait for my dates to finally be correct!

2. I disagree with New Year’s resolutions. In my mind, it’s just procrastinating making a change. If I’m going to change something or make a goal, why not do it now instead of waiting for the New Year?

3. I think the New Year’s holiday is, for lack of a better word, silly. I’m sorry to all those gung-ho fans of the New Year, but that’s how I feel. Let me explain:

We never really got into said holiday in my family. Back when I was a little girl, I wasn’t even really aware of New Year’s. I remember when I was 10 spending December 31st with my new step siblings. As midnight was approaching, one of them asked “do we have any fireworks?” and another chimed in, “or how about pots and pans for banging at midnight?” WHAT? I was so confused. Despite my skepticism I found myself out on the deck at midnight hitting 2 frying pans together with a muddled expression on my face. The bewildered feeling I had that night has sort of stayed with me ever since. BUT because I’m a good sport, I will participate in games, drinking Martinelli’s from plastic Champaign cups, and countdowns, with a smile on my face—all the while believing, in my mind, that December 31st is just another night…

the ff...

Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING compares to the feeling you get when you finish filling in the last bubble of your last final. It truly is the best. Finished-finals feeling is comparable to eating good chocolate; or losing yourself in the middle of a scintillating novel; or walking in your front door at Christmas time; or singing really loud to your favorite song; or squinching your toes in the sand at the beach; or laughing yourself to tears; or going to Disneyland. Pretty much any good feeling you can think of is equal to, or trumped by, the FF feeling. It’s the best. Ordinarily I would recommend the feeling to everyone, but that would require taking finals first—a fate I would never wish upon anyone.

So now that I’ve blogged about it, I am going to go enjoy that FF feeling for myself by reading a book that has been calling my name for far too long. Pope Joan, here I come…

P.S. Does anyone else feel like this post was full of (unintentional) alliteration? Whoever can can say "finished-finals feeling" 10x fast gets a prize.

More laughs for the day...

.

One Down

I can’t believe its 10:00 in the a.m. on the first day of finals week and I’ve already finished one of my exams (gotta love those 7am scheduled finals). I also can’t believe I’ve already been up for over 5 hours.

Epiphany: that's probably while i feel like death!

I know, i know...I'm a genius.

Anyway, mostly for my entertainment, but also for yours, I decided to post this video; because seriously, who doesn’t need a good laugh when its 20 degrees outside (or when you’ve got 3 more finals looming in your midst)?

Hope you laugh as hard as I did...

Have a happy Monday!

Sooooooooo

I’ve been absent from the blogging world for far too long.

And guess what? It’s that time of year again! Unfortunately I am not referring to Christmas (although my Christmas season has been a rather jolly one thus far, as snow has yet to really grace our presence) and am sadly referencing finals. I try every year to have a good attitude about them but some things will never change I guess!

To accurately describe my feelings about this bustling point in the semester, I give you my “Sometimes” list:

Sometimes, I spend more time on campus than off campus

Sometimes, I dream about real meals rather than string cheese and granola bars

Sometimes, I want to pull all my hair out because I am so stressed (then I change my mind)

Sometimes, I wonder how many more sighs there are per minute on campus during finals week compared to the rest of the semester. Goodness knows I contribute to that count.

Sometimes, All the time, I’d like the dark circles under my eyes and my pasty complexion to go away

Sometimes, I need a photographic memory

Sometimes, I forget how grateful I am to go to BYU

Sometimes, I can hardly think straight

Sometimes, I laugh at how miserable everyone looks on campus

Sometimes, I hate that the library stays open until 2 in the a.m.

Sometimes I wish I could fast forward to Christmas when finals are long over!

Just a few more days and i am home free...

(I think the phrase and suggestion "live in the moment" should be null and void for all college students during finals week. just saying)

Can't wait!
