Just Me and Harold

I am in the middle of writing a 15 page paper and my mind is on thinking overload. I needed a break from my paper so right now it is just me and Harold...the Harold B. Lee Library that is. That is where i was this weekend, that is where i am now, and that is where i will spend a large portion of the remaining semester. Sigh.

Lucky for me though, the library can actually be a very entertaining place. Take right now, for example. To my right I can watch a very desperate boy flirt with a complete stranger (who looks like she wants to run away). On my left i can see a sadly unhygienic individual digging for gold in their oh so large nostril. In front of me i can see some poor soul struggle to keep his head up probably due to the lack of sleep he got this weekend. And just around the corner is the entrance to the fourth floor where i can watch the comings and goings of all sorts of people. In my head is my music, Vivaldi, if you want specifics. And on my phone is a text message from my one of my roommates, patiently waiting for a reply. In my back pack is an empty chewy bar wrapper...darn. And above me is a fluorescent light that i wish would stop flickering. In a few minutes i will probably witness something funny--for example, i watched a person noisily knock over a trashcan when he turned his head to take one last glance at a very pretty girl. And in another few minutes, i will probably be the one doing something embarrassing. Oh Herald, for such a studious place, you sure are entertaining.

Well i have prolonged the inevitable for long enough. Now it is paper writing time!

Baby Cake

Two words: Baby. Cake.

No I am not talking about food! I am talking about my adorable, sweet, and wonderful little sister Kate...aka Baby Cake.

Kate came to Provo on Saturday to spend the weekend with me. Basically, I have been looking forward to this weekend for forever now and I am depressed that it has already come and gone. We had a blast, didn’t we Kate? Just like we always do. Much to her dismay, I didn’t have anything exciting planned; but I could sit in a room with Kate all day and it would still be one of the best days ever.

After a few bad directions on my part, and poor following directions on Kate’s, she finally made it. We spent the day cleaning my room, eating pound cake, going to a non-existent bridal fair, and hanging out with my rommies and family. For dinner we went to pizza pie cafĂ©…um yu-um! All you can eat pasta, pizza, salad, and dessert! Please say hello to Brianna Heaven. It was deeeeeee-lish! Sunday was spent attending church, going for a ride on the scoot, and watching a movie.

Unfortunately the weekend went by almost as fast as writing this paragraph did. Life would be so much better if Kate and I still lived together…but since we don’t, we will just have to make do with phone calls, text messages, and occasional visits. Sigh.

Not to get all mushy gushy or anything, but I just have to say how much I love my little sister. She is my best friend. No one knows me like Kate does, and no one can make me laugh like Kate does. She is beautiful and smart and talented, and I look up to her in every way—including height. Time spent with Kate is time spent doing good, laughing, crying, being silly, eating, dancing, talking, singing, quoting, and more laughing. She is the BOMB! And I love her more than she can ever know. So thanks Kate for being the best sister in the whole wide world.

P.S. For Kate: “Poooooooooooor Jeckles”

{Thanks}

Can i just send a gargantuan thank you out into the abyss of BYU? Some kind soul out there has made me so very happy. The first week of school, forgetful me left my favorite, London authentic ring sitting on a bathroom sink. To my despair it was gone when i went back to retrieve it. After a week and a half of checking the lost and found not once, but twice daily (and probably annoying the heck out of the workers)...my ring was returned! It was all i could do to keep myself from screaming and jumping up and down out of sheer joy--oh wait, i did do that! Now my beautiful ring is back with me where it belongs and i wish i could give its finder/returner a big hug. I guess sending this meager thank you out into the void will have to suffice.

Grown Up

You know how when you are little kid, people always ask you what you want to be when you grow up? Well i know i am not really a grown up yet (and i definitely don't feel like one); but my mom sent me a couple pictures this week that made me realize how far away i am getting from my childhood...sigh.

Meet the Ipsens. My childhood friends. We grew up on the same street, walked to elementary school together every day, went to primary together and had play dates on the weekends. We were the best of buddies. But then, as fate would have it, we all started to grow up...their family moved away and so did mine. We no longer have play dates, we are in different wards, and only some of us go to the same school...but a few weeks ago the Ipsen's oldest son returned home from a mission and we were reunited. Here are the "before and after pictures", if you will...

It's weird to be grown up...or to be growing up at least. I still can't decide if i like it. Oh well, here's to the good old days of childhood!

{a thought and a laugh}

So my cousin Madeleine and I had an intriguing conversation at Lunch yesterday. We were talking about the Broadway play “The Lion King”. Isn’t it weird how in the play you forget the characters are people…but in the Disney movie you forget the characters are animals? Weird, i know.

Also I had to post this video…hopefully you will laugh just as hard as I did. Enjoy!!

Awkward Encounters

Why do I have so many awkward encounters with people?! Today someone asked me for directions to the JKB (a building on campus). So I proceeded to draw him a map in the air (bad idea) and despite the FINE job I was doing, he started to get this funny look on his face where his mouth turned down and his eyebrows got all squinched together…aka he was confused. Well I know the poor boy didn’t get a word of what I said because when I was through explaining he said “thanks”, turned around and started walking in the complete wrong direction. Woops.

A few seconds later I was rushing to class and I accidentally knocked my earring out of my ear. Well of course it was a hoop earring so it started to roll away from me. Naturally, I chased after it. Well I chased after it right into the middle of a busy sidewalk and as I bent over to pick it up, I failed to notice who might be coming my way. Soon I found myself in the middle of a collision and very quickly a human traffic jam began to form. Woops again. When this boy and I finally picked ourselves up I realized that I had met him before. And what do you usually do when you know someone? You talk to them. So in my most friendly voice I said “Hey, I know you!” his response was a bored “You do?” And I was like “Yeah I was at your apartment randomly last semester” and to my dismay he said “You were??” Talk about embarrassing. His two friends were looking at me like woooooow who is this stalker? So amid my embarrassment I started rambling about when I had gone to his apartment. When it became clear that he really had no clue who I was, I stopped mid sentence, muttered something about having to get to class, and I scurried off. Pretty sure I wanted to crawl in a hole.

The one thing that redeemed my day was that i got to wear one of my favorite pairs of shoes with a newly purchased pair of cherry red skinny jeans! Totally worth the awkward encounters :)

LOVE.

I was walking on campus today and saw a girl with this picture in her binder. I fell in LOVE. I couldn't have said it better myself...

Jane

Jane is my roommate from San Luis Obispo, California. We met in the dorms freshmen year. We have the same birthday, but that is one of the only things we have in common. Jane likes organic food; she worries about chemicals in processed foods; she picks out her clothes and irons them the night before she has to wear them; she uses big words and has a tiny waste; she never stresses; she works an insane amount of hours and takes way too many credits; she likes eating tofu and watching Project Runway; she listens to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Led Zeppelin; she has incredible self control and enjoys zumba and surfing; she was a river guide and a Relief Society President; she always gives people the benefit of the doubt; she wishes she was a hippie; she wants to serve a mission; she does anything and everything she sets her mind to; she drinks herbal tea and loves bananas; and she always thinks she is right.

I think it is pretty safe to say we are very different. But for some reason the differences don't matter and over the past few years she has become one of my best friends. School, Provo, and life in general would not be the same without her.

Last night we stayed up late laughing about who knows what, watching Harry Potter trailers, and Facebook stalking everyone and their dog. It may not sound very exciting, but it is all these unexciting moments that mean the world to me, and make our friendship so great. So thanks for everything Jane...

Mmmmmm

This little dessert is what most people like to call a cupcake. I like to call it "a little piece of divinity sent from the angels, just for me". Have you been to THE SWEET TOOTH FAIRY?! This adorable cupcake store has changed my life! Seriously.

The coconut cupcake is pure perfection and i would like to meet its maker so i can personally thank them for bringing such happiness to my life.

Am i overreacting about this cute, friendly, bundle of sugar, flour, and goodness? Not in the least bit.

And i don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but i just discovered that not only is there a store in Salt Lake...there is a store in Provo, right down the street from me...ya!

Go try a cupcake...TODAY...you will never be the same.

Brianna = Spaz

The most frequent name i get called (other than my own name of course) is SPAZ. I have denied it my whole life but recent events would suggest otherwise. In just the first week of school

I walked home to the wrong apartment

I came out of the bathroom with my dress tucked into my slip in the back

I tripped up the stairs in the SWKT with my hands in my pockets

I had a laugh attack in a work meeting where no one else laughed

I lost my apartment key and had to climb in through the window

I waved like a mindless idiot to a person i thought i knew...yeah he was a complete stranger

I went on a double date last semester with one of my current professors

I cried in class when my physiology teacher told a story about rats

Rough life? Nah, that's just my life! I think it is safe to say i am a SPAZ
But on the bright side...i get to drive this around all semester

Boo Yeah
