I have a problem

My whole life I have considered myself to be an exception to the well-known and ever-criticized, “Utah Accent”.

For example, I do not say “mou-in” I actually pronounce my t’s and say “mountain”.

I do not sound like a hick and I feel like I do a good job of pronouncing most my words.

One word however, has been giving me quite a bit of grief. I have been trying to break the habit for weeks now and have seen zero success. The thing is, I think a lot of people have the same problem.

The word is “already” more commonly pronounced “ardy”.

“I ardy went to that class…”

“Have you ardy seen that movie?”

“Is it ardy time to go?”

Oh man, it bugs me so bad every time I hear that word come out of my mouth. And just wait, after reading this little blurb of mine, I guarantee you will notice yourself doing the exact same thing; or maybe it is just me. Either way, it’s the worst.

That being said, the most ironic part about this blog post is that while typing it at work, a customer asked me if I was from Texas because it sounded like I had an accent.

For the love of all things.

a few things on my mind...

-water is the most unsatisfying thing you can drink to quench your thirst after consuming ice cream

-I feel like an old woman at BYU when I tell people I’m a senior. 21 is not that old guys. Come on.

-the leaves are already starting to change and summer nights are starting to get chilly…I’m not ready for autumn yet.

-no one ever says their favorite fruit is a blueberry

-brushing your teeth in the shower is one of the most worthwhile things you can do. Try it, I dare you.

-i’m so excited for the Rascal Flatts concert I can hardly stand it

-my favorite color of nail polish is, and always will be, some shade of the color pink.

-I can’t wait for NFL to start. I’ve got a good feeling about this season…

-it is rare to meet someone named “Bob” these days (at least in my age group)

-clean floors and hair-free carpets make aaaalll the difference in the world.

-my new favorite game is “let’s see how many different foods go well with nutella”…currently everything in my cupboard goes splendidly.

-Having most of my family in Orem and Provo ROCKS

-I don’t want to go to school in the morning

THE END

Oh wait, one more thing:

A crocodile was just caught in the Philippines that weighs 1 ton.

Oh my.

You might as well call that thing a dinosaur.

Sooooo glad i live in Utah.

{The Hunger Games}

Guys.

Have you seen this?

Yes I admit, if the movie is even remotely like the book I will probably watch the film through the little windows that my fingers provide (aka my hands will be over my eyes A LOT); but I’m thinking it’s going to be pretty rad.

In the books I was, hands down, a Peeta fan; but my loyalty might change in the movies. Gale is one lucky character to have this actor playing his part…

Holy Hemsworth.

I’m obsessed.

The release date, March 23rd, cannot come soon enough!

Nerd

I work in a computer lab.

This may or may not give me rights to claim the title “nerd”.

But even if I wasn’t a nerd I would still think this print was funny:

So. True.

First Day

College is a little different the older you get. Freshmen year I was a terrified mess and had no clue what a syllabus was. Now, senior year, I realize that the only reason to attend the first day of classes is to read the syllabus to find out which assignments you don’t have to do, and which days you don’t have to go to class.

My first day as a big bad senior went a little like this...

I slept in until the last second possible to walk in right on time to my 9:00am class

I ignored first-day-of-school-protocol and did not take the time to glam myself up. I very happily settled with a bun on top of my head, because I have learned that first impressions are overrated.

I wasn’t prepared with “school supplies” and therefor had to take my journal to serve as a notebook

I sat next to my professor in Cognitive Development and wasn’t scared of him. In fact I think I’m going to like him quite a lot. Today he said “there are lots of things going on in the world, and all it takes is a library card”...profound right?

I attended a class with my brother and sister. Best. Thing. Ever.

I felt a cold sore coming in (booooooooooo) and went on a frantic chase in search of medication

I saw a lot of familiar faces that didn’t seem to find mine familiar in return (maybe it’s the bun?)

I worked for three hours as a new supervisor. Yikes.

I may or may not have dozed off in psychology. Give me a break; it’s a 2 ½ hour class.

I boycotted buying books for one more day due to their absurd price that could make even Bill Gates go broke.

I finished off the day at the grocery store where I laughed at this silly figurine

And I laughed even harder when I saw its opposite side…

HA!

All in all, it was a good day.

Second first day of school starts in the morning...wish me luck!

not ready!!!!

I am not ready for school to start.

My room this past month has been a direct reflection of how I feel on the inside: A complete disaster!

And I pretty much just picked up the mess in my room in SLC yesterday and moved it to my room in Provo—which happens to miniscule. Honestly, I’ve seen closets bigger than my room. But I can’t complain. My roommate and I will just be having a lot of pillow talk, that’s all.

And since we’re on the subject, can I complain a little bit? Moving is just the pits. Even though I love the heat and should never complain about it because I do enough complaining about the cold, it is pretty horrid moving furniture and boxes when it is over 100 degrees outside. Unless you are going for the wet look that is—and if that’s the case than by all means, keep moving those boxes! I however, have never been a fan of the wet look. Unfortunately it was unavoidable this week. Buuuuut that being said…mission accomplished! 80 carloads and buckets of sweat later my apartment is finally starting to resemble something I can live in.

Hallelujah.

Classes start on Monday…yikes! I always thought that by the time I was as old as I am (which I’m realizing really isn’t that old), I wouldn’t get first day of school jitters anymore. But boy do I still get first day of school jitters. It makes me feel like I’m still in kindergarten or something! Maybe it’s anticipating the all-nighters that lie ahead; or maybe it’s knowing the endless hours of studying that are waiting for me; or maybe it’s worrying about finals already; or maybe it’s becoming one step closer to still not knowing what I’m doing with my life. Even though I can’t quite put my finger on what “it” is, “it’s” giving me jitters.

Oh and did I mention I started work again today? Well I did. And to start off the semester with a bang, I thought I would sleep through my alarm for my first morning back. Good idea…NOT! I woke up at 7:52 this morning and punched into work at 7:58. Wow. And despite disheveled hair, smeared makeup, a skirt on backwards, and pillow prints still on my face…it was a tremendous feat.

I hope this morning was not an omen for how the rest of my semester is going to go…

This Week...

I gained new respect for mothers as I babysat my little cousin Jake, for a few days. Man that kid has energy. And good thing he is so dang cute otherwise I probably would have been pretty upset when he pointed to my stomach and said, “baby in your tummy”.

Yes Jake, that is was i like to call a food baby. HA!

I keep telling myself he was just confused, as his mom recently gave birth...

Also, I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than eating cake. Lemon cake might I add. My sister and I spent a couple days making this, what we would call, masterpiece. I always shout for joy when something I bake actually turns out…it is such a rare occurrence. Anyway, we found the recipe here and it was pretty divine if I do say so myself.

mmmm

Try it. I dare you.
